PhD

In February 2026, Marley Starskey Butler began a practice-based PhD at Birmingham City University’s School of Art, following the award of the Gertrude Aston Bowater PhD Award.








The project, is currently titled Dissonance Between Institutional Archives and Affective Memory of Care-Experienced Persons: Exploring Resilience Through Artistic Practice.







It is supervised by Professor Becky Shaw (Director of Studies), alongside Dr Lisa Metherell and Jaskirt Boora
